Don’t Try This at Home Kids!

The often used cultural meme of “Don’t try this at home kids!” has it own basis in the world of change management. One of the most often used statistics is that 70% of change management programs fail. In fact, Google “70% change failure rate,” and you’ll see 63 million results. Despite the ongoing debate regarding the validity of this claim, it’s fair to say that the success rate of managing change is terrible. There is another often cited statistic that 70% of small business owners fail by their 10th year in business. To me there is a correlation worth noting. Starting a small business and undertaking a serious change in the way an existing organization performs is all about doing something new. The dictionary defines new as something being discovered recently or now for the first time. The mission of the Book of Change is to help you and for you to help all of us.
